An ATD Austin Professional Development Program

They are every talent development manager’s dream assignment—the ones that offers you a chance to work directly with senior executives. These opportunities can be launchpads for career success—or lead to misfires that can set you back. It often depends on how well you “speak executive.”

Fluency in the motivations and methods of the E-suite is an essential skill for people on the rise, but it’s not a natural one. Succeeding with Senior Management is the first and only workshop out there to address this critical skill gap.

Talent managers are innately learning-focused and behavior-oriented. In contrast, executives are more focused on overall business goals and frequently impatient with the details. That mental divide often leads to miscommunication that alienates executives and sabotages initiatives. That miscommunication is a deal-breaker when you get to the high visibility initiatives where you simply can’t succeed without engaging the support of senior management.

This workshop provides the practical guidelines every talent development manager needs by revealing the way executives think, and how their concerns about profit and customer experience provide direction for engaging with them. This is no easy task for talent managers who must expand their focus beyond learning objectives, content, and delivery strategy.

Succeeding with Senior Management uses stories from projects at Fortune 500 companies to bring essential lessons to life.

This one-of-a-kind workshop presents game-changing principles and practical steps that every talent manager will find invaluable.

    You’ll learn to:

    • Think like an executive
    • Prepare the leadership for success
    • Build relationships and trust
    • Master executive-effective communication
    • Use executives’ deputies effectively
    • Overcome cross-functional issues
    • Navigate political waters
    • And more...

Master the art of managing up and take your career to new heights.

Many organizations struggle with outdated training methods that are no longer effective across multiple generations of learners. At the ATD LearnNow: The Modern Learner two-day workshop, learning and development (L&D) professionals will learn how to turn an existing training program into a modern learning program that will keep their companies and their own L&D organization relevant in today’s talent marketplace.

L&D organizations are caught between two different, changing worlds: the organization and the employees. The C-suite wants development programs that attract, develop, and retain employees in today’s competitive talent world. Meanwhile, modern learners, a diverse, multinational group, want to have information when they need it and how they want it. Is your L&D team ready to transform into a modern learning organization?

ATD’s LearnNow: The Modern Learner workshop will show you how to convert your organization into a modern learning and development culture.

    • Close skill gaps faster by enabling learning at the speed of the 24/7 digital workplace.
    • Engage modern learners by optimizing current learning methods, integrating learning solutions into the workplace, and applying a proprietary Learning Clusters design technique.
    • Modernize your L&D function, including a revamped L&D scorecard to reflect today’s realities.

Workshop facilitators Crystal Kadakia and Lisa M.D. Owens bring a wealth of real-world experience and a proprietary learning clusters design technique that will help you transform one of your existing training programs into a modern learning program guaranteed to excite your learners. They will guide you through the the four challenges for modern L&D, while demonstrating the difference between traditional and modern learning programs.

As an experienced instructional designer, you know it takes a lot of time to teach new material before you can help adult learners put that knowledge into practice. But imagine how much more quickly you’d enhance productivity if you could dive right into the practical application.

Enter the flipped classroom! Still a new concept in talent development and adult learning, this methodology helps maximize face time with learners by integrating the best of classroom learning with self-directed, learner-generated activities.

The ATD LearnNow: Flipped Classroom workshop is taught with a flipped classroom approach so that you can experience it firsthand while learning how to create a more collaborative environment that is truly learner-centric.

The facilitators will focus on the four aspects of the flipped classroom model as modules for the workshop:

    1. Demonstration and application: focuses on learner-generated personalized projects and presentations
    2. Meaning making: focuses on learner-generated activities such as blogs, podcasts, videos, social networking, and discussion boards
    3. Experiential engagement: focuses on hands-on activities including games, simulations, experiments, and use of the arts
    4. Concept exploration: focuses on video and audio lectures, content-rich websites, and online chats.
